Tehran Number by Number
About Us
Tehran, Number by Number is a research collective dedicated to exploring the architecture and urban fabric of Tehran. For over a decade, we have been conducting research, documentation, and public programs focused on the city’s built heritage and contemporary urban identity. Our work combines field studies, heritage advocacy, and urban tourism projects aimed at rediscovering and revitalizing Tehran’s historic neighborhoods.
We collaborate with cultural organizations, academic institutions, and civic groups to raise awareness about architectural conservation and the improvement of urban spaces. This website serves as a platform for sharing insights, archives, and reflections on the architecture and urbanism of Tehran.
Our Story
Tehran, Number by Number initiative officially began in July 2015 as an Instagram-based platform for documenting the city’s architecture. Its roots, however, go back to 2008, when the founding members began compiling an image archive of Tehran’s architectural heritage, particularly buildings from the Pahlavi era.
Over the years, our focus has expanded from identifying and documenting significant structures to examining architectural trends, typologies, and social narratives within Tehran’s historic districts. We continue to study, map, and share the stories that shape the city’s evolving identity.
